Waiting Season

Seek God in your waiting season.

God is omnipresent - He’s with us everywhere & always as believers. But sometimes our view of Him becomes obstructed during difficult seasons. One such season is a waiting season. We’re waiting for the job, the person, the call, the healing and all of a sudden, we start to wonder where God is. God is there, but our pain might be clouding our clarity. If you’re having trouble seeing Him while you wait on Him, here are a few places to seek Him. We can seek Him in all things, but I hope the following areas serve as good starting points. I’m in a waiting season myself & I’ve found a lot of peace by reflecting on the points below.

Where is God in our waiting season?

He is in our prayer time, comforting & listening to us.

II Corinthians 1:3-5 — Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Psalm 34:18 — The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.

He is in our faith as it grows stronger through trials.

James 1:2-3 — My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

Hebrews 11:6 — But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

He is in our preparation, equipping us for good works.

Ephesians 2:10 — For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 — To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven

He is in our praise as we acknowledge Him for who He is, not just what He does for us.

Psalm 22:3 — But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.

John 4:24 — God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

He is in our stillness as we trust Him intentionally, not busying ourselves just to feel worthy.

Psalm 46:10 — Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Matthew 11:28 — Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

He is in our surrender.

Matthew 16:24-25 — Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

Galatians 2:20 — I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

He is in our dependence as we learn that we can do nothing apart from Him.

John 15:5 — “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

II Corinthians 12:9 — And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

He is in our study as we saturate our minds & hearts with His Word.

John 1:1 — In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

II Timothy 3:16-17 — All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

He is in our humility as we submit to His plans without comparing ourselves to others.

I Peter 5:6-7 — Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Micah 6:8 — He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

What might keep us from seeing God in our waiting season?

1. Our worry.

I tend to worry while I wait, rather than praying while I wait. Worry doesn’t work - prayer does! Prayer builds our faith as we speak the promises of God over our lives & situations, while worry gives the devil a foothold in our minds. Worry brings exhaustion and frustration, while prayer brings refreshment and hope. Trust God & enjoy His presence by trading worry for prayer.

2. Our comparison.

As I begin to compare my situation to others, I take my eyes off God. My path becomes littered with jealousy, anger, pride, and desperation. I begin to feel small and ashamed of the life that I have or don’t have. However, when I intentionally turn my focus toward God by worshipping Him, trusting His Word, and seeking His Spirit, I begin to feel more hopeful and assured. I can rest in the plan that God has for me, knowing that it is unique, intentional, and purposeful.

3. Our desire for control.

Faith feels like a free fall at times. We grasp at the reins of life, trying to create our own desired outcome. We crave control, convinced we know best when God of course knows best! Trusting God is a worthwhile adventure because God is a good God with good plans. He is working everything together, even when it doesn’t make sense. The free fall of faith isn’t a descent into darkness. God lights our path with His Word. Allow Scripture to reveal who God is to you. Fix your eyes on God, not on your own plans.

4. Our idols.

Are there things in your life that you want more than God? Sometimes we fail to consider God’s will because we so desperately crave a certain thing - like a job title or a relationship status. As we reassess our priorities and place every desire under God’s authority, we learn patience and live the grace of the Lord’s rhythm.

I hope this post refreshes you during your waiting season! You’re not alone on the journey xx Elise
